Dorothy June Stuart, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. She was born the daughter of John and Mabel Needs on June 12, 1933, in Des Moines, Iowa

June was married to her beloved husband, Robert for over 50 years. Together they built a life full of love, laughter, and shared memories. A talented artist and dedicated businesswoman, June owned and operated a ceramic shop in Altoona, Iowa for nearly 30 years, where she also taught classes and inspired many with her creativity. She had a deep love for gardening and tending to her flowers. June enjoyed listening to Chicago Cubs games on the radio and even named her poodle Sammy, after Cubs player Sammy Sosa. She was also a devoted dog lover and a proud supporter of the Animal Rescue League. In her later years, you could find June enjoying a Diet Coke and an Oatmeal Cream Pie.

She is survived by her children, Rebecca Procyk of Des Moines, Iowa, Timothy (Diane) Stuart of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, Patricia West of Wick, Iowa, and Theresa (Todd) Taylor of Des Moines, Iowa; sister, Lois Johnson of Gillespie Illinois; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.

June was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Stuart; brother, Paul Needs; sisters, Barbara Reeves, Phyllis Yakovich, Betty Kenworthy and Joan Walker; grandson, Eric Estell.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, from 11:00-12:00 p.m. with funeral service following at 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home. 105 4th Street, SW, Altoona, Iowa 50009. Burial will take place at Altoona Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League in memory of June.
