Douglas Ray Beckett
Des Moines, Iowa
Douglas “Doug” Ray Beckett, 66, passed away on April 17, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. Doug was born on March 14, 1960 to Harold and Margaret (Ulm) Beckett.
Doug graduated from Tech High School in 1979 and remained a proud East Sider throughout his life. He was known for his strong work ethic and deep respect for hard work. Shortly after graduation, he began his military career with the Army National Guard, attending boot camp at Fort Knox, Kentucky, where he served as a Military Police officer with the 186th Company. Doug proudly served his country during Desert Storm in 1991 and completed a distinguished 22-year military career. His career also included working at UPS Freight.
Doug found great joy in the outdoors, especially fishing and mushroom hunting, and in his younger years, game hunting. He also loved riding motorcycles and driving his Little Red Corvette with the freedom of the open road. A devoted Iowa Hawkeyes fan, he enjoyed cheering on his team every chance he got.
Doug was the number one fan of his children and grandchildren, faithfully attending every one of their events and cheering them on with pride and unwavering support.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 42 years, Mora; children, Amanda (Aaron) and Ryan (Channing); grandchildren, Savannah, Michael, Layla, Madeline, Zach and Max; brother, Mike (Kelly), along with an extended family of cousins, nephews and many friends.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents and grandpa, Hubert Ulm.
Family will greet guests on Thursday, April 23, 2026 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Immediately following visitation, a funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
