Everett Eugene Kelsey
Ankeny, Iowa
Everett “Gene” Kelsey, 72, passed away on January 28, 2026, at UnityPoint Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. He was born on June 19, 1953, in Newton, Iowa, to Donald and Leola (Hollingshead) Kelsey.
Gene was a devoted servant of Jesus Christ who lived to bring glory to God in all things. Throughout his life, Gene wore many hats: a dedicated employee at Principal Financial for 25 years; a minister who served multiple congregations; and a cherished husband, father, and grandfather. His heart for others extended far beyond his immediate family, as he welcomed and mentored countless individuals who became family through the love of Christ. Perhaps his favorite "hat" of all was that of a devoted husband to his wife, Lisa. Together, they played an endless "giving game," constantly seeking to out-love one another—an example of grace that taught his family how to love as Christ loved the Church.
In retirement, Gene found great joy in serving his community. He was a familiar, friendly face as an elementary school crossing guard and a beloved Sunday school teacher at New City Church. He fully embraced his role as the "fun grandpa," whether he was playing "horsey," cheering at sporting events, or attending musical performances. Gene also stayed active with his KO Fit family and found peace riding his bicycle. His life was a testament to his faith, and he will be remembered as a true disciple who furthered the Kingdom of God. As he enters eternal life, his family finds comfort in knowing he has heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Gene is survived by his loving wife, Lisa; his children, Dana (Glen), Matthew (Ginny), Bryan, Ashley (Casey), André, Courtney (Zach), and Dave (Sara); his grandchildren, Kate, Karly, Topher, Weston, Parker, Miley, Jax, Della, and Anna Grace; his brother, Nolan (Sheila); nieces Tobé and Mandy; and countless others who considered him as a father or grandfather in their lives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will greet guests on Monday, February 2, 2026, from 3:30–4:30 p.m. at New City Church (849 S. Ankeny Blvd, Ankeny, Iowa). A funeral service will follow at 4:30 p.m. at the church.
