Florence Elaine Pueschel
of Altoona, Iowa
Florence Elaine Pueschel, 92, passed away on June 18, 2025, leaving a lasting legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to those she held dear. She was born on April 27, 1933, the daughter of Leonard W. and Ferne A. (Nelson) Richardson.
Florence was a woman of many passions. An avid reader, she found comfort and joy in the pages of a good book. She loved baking for her family… from cookies to cakes (especially her Rhubarb coffee cake) and she passed down so many delicious Danish recipes such as Kringla, Yucca, and Aebleskiver. They were the highlight of every family gathering. She was a gifted knitter, creating countless afghan blankets that now serve as cherished keepsakes for her family and friends. A devoted sports fan, Florence rarely missed a game—especially if her beloved Iowa Hawkeyes or Cyclones were playing.
Throughout her life, Florence found fulfillment in caring for others. She was proud to serve as a Certified Nursing Assistant, spending many years at Blank Children’s Hospital, John Stoddard Cancer Center, and the Ronald McDonald House. Her compassion and commitment to others continued until her retirement at the remarkable age of 80.
More than anything, Florence’s heart belonged to her family. She treasured time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and her presence at every holiday, game, recital, and family gathering was a testament to her deep devotion. Her unwavering support and love were constants in the lives of those who knew her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Dennis (Jody) Pueschel, Mark Pueschel and LeAnne (Tariq) Saunders; her brother, Russel (Dell) Richardson; her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents and her grandchildren, Hailey Pueschel, Aaron Pueschel, and Matthew Canale.
A visitation to honor Florence will be held at a later date. She will be laid to rest this fall at Alden Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made directed to family and will be used for Florence’s great-granddaughter, Rilynn, for her college fund.

Florence you will be forever remembered as the neighborhood nurse. It took a village on 9th Street and you were part of the tribe of women who helped raise that village. Forever a 9th Street Mom. We love you and will miss you. Have coffee with Linda and Charlotte up there and tell them we miss them. ❤️
