Gilbert Eugene Knudsen

Gilbert Eugene Knudsen, 95, passed away at The Iowa Jewish Life Center, on August 10, 2026. He was born on June 25, 1931, in Des Moines to Ralph and June (Marks) Knudsen.

Gilbert was an Army Veteran and served in the Korean War. He owned and operated Precision Auto Body and Metal Shapers. He had worked as an autobody repair tech since his teenage years. Gilbert loved attending car shows, swap meets and was a member of the Mid-Iowa Region Plymouth Owners Club Inc. and Early Wheels of Iowa Car Club. He was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America and was a Scout Master for Troop 88 in Ankeny in the 1970’s.

Gilbert is survived by his children, Terry (Jan) Knudsen, Michael (Roberta) Knudsen, Molly (Alan) Moses and Christopher Knudsen; brother, Mark (Waneeta) Knudsen of Des Moines; sister, Patricia LeMoe of Colorado; 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Rae Mary; parents and brother, Paul Knudsen.

Family will greet guests on Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 10:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Gilbert will be laid to rest at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Ave., Des Moines.
