In Loving Memory of Gwen Jean Kurth and Kelly Jeanne Kurth
Our family shares, with both profound sadness and deep gratitude, the passing of two beloved women whose lives were forever intertwined.
Gwen Jean Rynning Kurth passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 27, 2026, after a long journey with dementia. She was 85 years old.
Just five days earlier, on July 22, 2026, her daughter, Kelly Jean Kurth, also passed away peacefully in her sleep following a brief illness.
Though each life was unique, it feels fitting to remember them together.
Gwen was born on September 25, 1940, in Richardton, North Dakota, to Harold Rynning and Mary Young. She was raised in Des Moines, Iowa, where she built the life she loved. She and her husband, Galen, shared 69 years of marriage and together raised four children.
Gwen was a voracious reader who was rarely seen without a book. She enjoyed painting, photography, and gardening, and she appreciated the beauty found in everyday life. She will be remembered most for her devotion to her family.
Kelly was born on June 15, 1959, in San Diego, California. She spent most of her life in Des Moines, where she remained close to family and lifelong friends. Kelly lived simply and loved deeply. She had a generous heart, cared sincerely for others, and found joy in spending time with the people she loved. She will be remembered for her kindness, her warmth, and the genuine way she made others feel welcome.
Gwen is survived by her husband, Galen Kurth; her children, Galen Kurth II (Mary), Brett Kurth (Julie), and Julie Swint (Kevin); her sisters, Judy Carr and Dene Trulson; her grandchildren, great grandchildren; and many extended family members.
