Harold Depriest Lovelady, 54, passed away on August 31, 2025 in Ankeny. He was born in Des Moines, IA on January 30, 1971.
Harold attended Woodlawn elementary, Merrill Middle school before landing at “Da Velt”. He attended Roosevelt High School were where he excelled as a student athlete. Harold participated in Football and Soccer, however he was passionate about wrestling. His work ethic on the mat was unprecedented. His work was rewarded by countless medals and memorialized as a state place winner.
Following graduation, Harold spent the next year at Iowa Central Community College. He decided to follow his dream of being a Marine and enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. Serving as a Marine was a true honor, “Semper Fi.”
While in high school, Harold met the love of his life, Brandy Hines. They married in 1991 and celebrated 34 years of marriage. This marriage brought the birth of their two children Jaxson and Jadyn. Nothing brought Harold more joy than being their dad.
Harold was a dedicated employee. Before serving as a Business Execution Administrator at Wells Fargo for the past 16 years, he worked at Qwest for 10 years. He was also the proud owner of Battle’s BBQ in Indianola.
Harold will forever be remembered for his sense of humor. He enjoyed spending time with his family, cracking jokes, and his big belly laugh. He was a loyal husband, father, son, brother, and friend.
Harold is survived by his loving wife Brandy Lovelady; children, Jaxson and Jadyn Lovelady; mother, Sherry Battle; siblings, Allison (DJ)Warren; Ryan (Kristin) Williamson and Sean Lovelady; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Pylar) Hines and Mike Hines; parents-in-law, Diana Hines and Jerry Hines, along with a wealth of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, M. Maxine Long, Mary Wheeler and LuSarah Lovelady and uncles, Lamont Lovelady and Don Johnson.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025 from 10:00-2:00 p.m., at the American Legion Park, 301 Vine St., West Des Moines, IA.
A Memorial Service will take place at Kyles A.M.E. Zion Church, 907 15th St. Des Moines, IA. 50314 on Saturday September 13, 2025 at 12:00 p.m.
-Harold’s family has requested that everyone come in very casual dress attire-
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be directed towards supporting his daughter Jadyn’s law school education.

Brandy and family, I am so sorry for your loss.
Last I saw Harold he was filled with love and pride for his kids- showing me many pics of them-:)
he shared Jayden being in Ireland and in law school and just seemed to glow over their communication/connection! He spoke fondly of Jaxson as well!
He loved you so, Brandy! And may God/source be with you and the kids always. Much love to you!!!
