Henry Maurice Anderson, 95, passed away on November 30, 2025 at his residence. He was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa on June 10, 1930, to Henry and Anna Anderson.

Henry enjoyed traveling, and when asked which trip was his favorite, he usually said, “All of them!” His early travels involved camping all over the United States and Canada. Later, he took several cruises all around the world. Henry was active in the First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls prior to relocating to the Des Moines area following his retirement from his long-time position as an accountant and office manager for Walkers Shoe Store.

Family was most important to Henry, but he made time to serve others. He and his wife, Shirley, volunteered on a mission trip in Africa assisting an ophthalmologist in fitting children there for eye glasses.

Henry is survived by his daughters, Kathi (Ron) Thompson, Jan (Jack) Landy and Pam (Scott) Petersen; daughter-in-law, Carrie Anderson; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Chuck Anderson and son Vernon “Skip” Anderson.

Family will greet guests on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, Altoona, Iowa. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Henry will be laid to rest at Altoona Cemetery, Altoona, Iowa.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital, 200 Hawkins Drive, Iowa City, Iowa 52242 in loving memory of Henry.

Military honors will be presented by the United States Air Force at his graveside.
