Jackie Earl Shelton, 77, passed away on June 6, 2026, in Polk City. He was born on March 9, 1949, in Fayetteville, AR to Earl and Mary (Overton) Shelton.

Jack retired from the Des Moines Public Schools in 2009 after many years of dedicated service as a custodian. In his retirement, he enjoyed watching Western movies, fishing, and listening to Christian music. Above all, Jack will be remembered as a Godly man whose faith guided his life and touched those who knew him.

Jack proudly served his country as a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps from 1969 to 1970. He was honorably discharged and remained proud of his military service throughout his life.

While Jack enjoyed many interests throughout his life, nothing was more important to him than his family. He loved them dearly and valued every moment spent with them.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Carol; daughter, Vanessa (Joe) Grant; son, Joshua (Jonell Wilson) Shelton; step-daughters, Anita (Kevin) Eschweiler and Tanya Bates; 16 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Verna Cobb; brother, Tom (Konda) Shelton; brother-in-law, Gary Graeber; the mother of his children, Vicki Shelton; many nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Loretta Graeber; his dog, Halo and cat, Sammey.

Family will greet guests on Monday, June 15, 2026, from 10:00 – 11:0 a.m., at Heritage Assembly of God, 5051 NE 5th Street, Des Moines. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., at the church. Following the funeral service, Jackie will be laid to rest at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel, Iowa at 12:30 p.m.
