Janice Jeanne Carter

Janice Jeanne Carter, age 88, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026.

She was born the daughter of Martin Reitan and Marie (Sirios) Reitan on December 26,
1937, in Duluth, Minnesota. Janice had one brother, Roger (Buddy) Reitan. She was a
graduate of Hermantown High School.

In 1956, Janice married Reverend William (Bill) Carter, her high school sweetheart. She
supported Bill as he served four Lutheran congregations in Iowa for over 25 years. Janice
and Bill had five daughters.

After Bill’s retirement, the couple moved to Sioux City, Iowa. Janice enjoyed a long
career working at Phillips Kiln in South Sioux City, Nebraska.

Janice is survived by her five daughters, Suzette Curry, Suzanne Carter, Suellen (Kirk)
Irwin, Suelinn Grant, and Suelana Carter Kinney; eleven grandsons; one
Granddaughter; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved brother Buddy, her husband,
an infant son, her name-sake granddaughter (Janice Darlene Nelson), and a greatgrandson.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
