Jeffrey James Borst
March 06, 1967 — January 29, 2026
Jeffrey James Borst, age 58, passed away on January 29th, 2026, after losing his battle with mental health. He was born on March 6, 1967, in Des Moines, Iowa, to James Lee and Barbara Joan (Thomas) Borst.
Jeff grew up in Des Moines and graduated from Grandview Park Baptist High School in 1985. After high school, he founded a detasseling business that he owned and managed for more than 40 summers, a testament to his strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. Jeff married Angie Larson in 1994 and from that union had 4 unique boys. They later amicably divorced. Alongside his business, Jeff also dedicated many years of service working for Lennox and UPS. In 2003, he moved his family to Altoona, Iowa, where he began a long and meaningful career as a school bus driver; forming lasting connections with students and families in the community.
Jeff loved watching sports and movies, listening to good music—especially anything from the 1980s—traveling, enjoying great food, and spending time in his favorite seat at the casino.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Lee Borst and Barbara Joan (Thomas) Borst.
Jeff is survived by his children, Zach Borst, Cody Borst, Logan (Taylor) Borst and Brayden Borst. He was a proud grandfather to Lillian, Zoey, and Josephine Borst. He is also survived by his siblings, Michael (Wendy) Borst, Heather (Anthony) Miller, Rob Borst and Melissa Borst; as well as a host of extended family and dear friends.
Family will be greeting friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home; 105 4th Street SW, Altoona. Memorial service will immediately follow the visitation at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to a mental health charity of your choice. Better yet, grab a buddy and head to a casino and make sure you put it on black!
