Katherine "Kathy" Loraine Huffman

Katherine "Kathy" Loraine Huffman, 69, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025. Her infectious laugh and warm spirit touched countless lives throughout her journey.

Born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, Kathy was the beloved daughter of the late Billie Junior and Norma Ellen Huffman. Her adventurous spirit led her to spend time in Hilton Head, South Carolina, where she embraced the coastal lifestyle and formed lasting friendships.

Throughout her diverse career, Kathy excelled as both a tax specialist and in the food and beverage industry, where she managed several notable establishments. Her natural ability to connect with people made her a beloved figure in both professional spheres. As a dedicated member of the Iowa Horse Fair Council, she combined her passion for horses with service to her community.

Kathy found her greatest joy in the simple pleasures of life - riding horses, spending precious time with Heather and Dylan, and caring for her beloved Labrador companions. Her ability to make friends wherever she went was legendary, and her laughter had a way of brightening any room she entered.

Kathy is survived by her loving daughter, Heather Huffman; grandchildren, Saleen and Dylan Horton; brothers, Billy Huffman and Kevin (Cherie) Huffman; her cherished Labrador companions; her adopted daughters; and many other family members and countless friends.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved dog, Boomer, who was her faithful companion for several years.

Kathy's warm heart, generous spirit, and unforgettable laugh will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She left this world a brighter place through the countless lives she touched with her kindness and joy.

There will be a Celebration of Life held at the Fellowship Community Church in Norwalk, Iowa, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Kathy’s daughter, Heather Huffman, to help with expenses.
