Kham Quang
March 07, 1947 — February 10, 2026
Kham Quang, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026 at Mercy Hospital surrounded by family and loved ones.
Kham Quang was born on March 7, 1947 in the city of Khamkeuth, the province of Khammouane Laos. Kham and May married on May 15, 1970 and had 3 children prior to immigrating to America on September 15, 1980 where they later had 2 more children.
Kham’s first job in the US was at the Marriot Hotel earning $2.00 an hour. He was so proud that he kept his very first paystub. After the Marriot, he worked at Iowa Packing Company for 32 years until his retirement. In his free time, he dedicated his life to collecting and redeeming cans to support his favorite pass times of hunting, fishing, and tending to his garden. His favorite indulgences were soda, sweets, squirrel, deer and raw laab.
He was a man of few words but when he did talk, we listened. When he started shaking and scratching his head behind his ear, we walked away. After many grandchildren the head scratching became less and the jokes and laughs were extensive. Although he had 5 children of his own, he was truly a father figure to his siblings and extended family. He accepted all and rejected none which made him a staple in the Lao Community. Kham’s strong work ethic and selflessness when it came to helping friends, family and strangers was unmatched by any other – the true definition of a strong, kind, hard-working man.
Kham Quang was a man that left a lasting impression not only by his actions but wisdom he passed down. He will truly be missed by all.
He is survived by his wife, May Quang; daughters, Souy (Nathan) Mohne, Boursy Paloma, Thong Quang-Ly (Linsao Ly), and Linda (Marchy) Yang; and son, Adam (Billy) Quang.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sao and La Quang, youngest sister, Som Quang, and son-in-law, Estafon (Steve) Paloma.
A service will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Hamilton’s Near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa.
