Larry Eugene Evans, 92, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 13, 2026, at the Iowa Veterans Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born May 1, 1933, and lived a life full of love, laughter and devotion to his family.
On October 6, 1951, Larry married the love of his life, Colleen, and together they built a wonderful life. A proud veteran, Larry served in the United States Air Force. After his military service and after many years working in the direct mail industry, Larry retired from Bell & Howell.
He will be remembered for his deep love of the Lake of the Ozarks, a place that brought him great joy throughout his life. Larry spent countless hours there boating, fishing, sweeping cobwebs, and most importantly, enjoying the company of his family and friends. Those moments—filled with laughter, stories, and simple pleasures—defined what mattered most to him.
A lifelong fan of car racing, he spent many Saturday nights at Knoxville Raceway and enjoyed watching races on television in later years.
Larry’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered for his warmth, his love of the outdoors, and his unwavering appreciation for time spent with the people he cherished. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, love, warmth, and devotion to family and friends, as well as his joy in life’s simple pleasures.
He is survived by his children, Mike (Theresa McDowell) Evans, Karen (David) Peterson, and Karla (Ron) Foresman; grandchildren, A. J. (Stephanie) Earleywine, Michael (Betsy) Earleywine, Cassie (Jayson) Aldrich, Macy Holland, Jessica Houser, Chelsea Foresman, and Alex (Dylan) Casey; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Larry was preceded in death by his sons, Dean Evans and Gary Evans, and his granddaughter, Andria Evans.
A Memorial service will be held Monday, April 6 at Hamilton’s near Highland Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, in Des Moines at 11:00 am.
In lieu of memorials, the family asks that you honor Larry’s memory by spending time with your loved ones.
