Loren F. Schurman

Loren Ferman Schurman, age 83, passed away on February 3, 2026, at his home in Des Moines, Iowa.
Loren was born on November 14, 1942, on a farm near Lacona, Iowa, to Edward and Mildred (Ohnemus) Schurman. He graduated from Southeast Warren High School in 1961. Shortly after graduation, Loren proudly enlisted in the United States Army in June of 1961. He spent 13 months stationed in Korea and later served the remainder of his military time in Colorado Springs before being honorably discharged in 1964.
Following his military service, Loren began working at John Deere in Des Moines in April of 1965. He dedicated 30 years to the company before retiring in April of 1995. Loren was proud to be both a veteran and a longtime union member with Local 450 UAW.
In his free time, Loren enjoyed boating and dancing, activities that brought him happiness and relaxation throughout his life.
Loren is survived by his siblings, Richard (RaeNette) Schurman and Dennis Schurman; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Bernard, Wayne, Marlene, Elvin, and Lyle; his sisters-in-law, Collette, Marilyn, Delilah, and Kathy; and his nephew, Marty.
Per Loren’s wishes, he was cremated, and no services will be held. Loren will be laid to rest at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa, in the spring.
