Lowell Franklin Jones, born September 6, 1932, passed away peacefully after a short and unexpected illness. He lived a long and full life marked by kindness, devotion, and a love for connecting with others. Lowell proudly served his country as a Corporal Combat Engineer in the 2nd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and the discipline and dedication he carried from his service were evident throughout his life. A true people person, Lowell never met a stranger. He had a gift for conversation and enjoyed making connections with everyone he encountered.

Lowell was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Jones; his parents, Robert and Wilma Jones; his brother, Fred (Glenda) Jones; and his sisters, Barbara (Kenneth) Palmer, Shirley (Duane) Mott, and Mary Louise Jones. He was deeply devoted to his siblings and maintained a strong family bond throughout his life. He is survived by his sons, Jerry (Debbie) Jones and Steve (Sherry) Jones, who were blessed with a father who led by example and supported them in every endeavor. He was also a proud grandfather to Erica (Ryan) Ecken, Ethan (Tara) Jones, and Natalie Jones, and a great-grandfather to Maddie Jones. Lowell leaves behind his sister June Hunt and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will cherish his memory.

A man of many talents and passions, Lowell loved traveling, tending to his yard, and collecting antiques. He found joy in capturing the beauty of nature as an avid amateur photographer and expressed his creativity through writing poetry, which he often shared with family and friends. He also enjoyed singing and playing the guitar, filling his home with music and warmth. Lowell will be remembered as a loving and patient husband and father, a loyal friend, and a man who lived life with gratitude and an open heart. His legacy of kindness and devotion will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Hamilton Funeral Home, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines, IA, Services will be Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 10:00 AM, immediately following visitation. Burial immediately following the service at McKeever Cemetery in Colfax, IA.
