Marcia Jo Garton

Marcia Jo Garton, age 76, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2026. She was born in Des Moines, Iowa on June 28, 1949.

Marcia loved spending time with her family and her dog, Murphy, watching Iowa State football and basketball and attending her grandchildren’s various activities when she was able.

She is survived by her children, Charly (Shauna) Garton, Tim (Jill) Garton, Shannon (John) Moore, Alyson (Justin) Althaus; siblings, John (Deb) Ersland, Bill (Lynne) Ersland, and Julie Lindsay; grandchildren, Marissa, Peyton, Gabryel, Jack, Scarlett, and Ivy; her beloved dog, Murphy; and several nieces and nephews.

Marcia was preceded in death by her parents, Jeanne and Harold Ersland; and Charles Garton, the father of her children.

Visitation will be held from 10:00- 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 22, 2026, with funeral service following at 11:00 a.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens. 121 NW 60th Ave, Des Moines, IA 50313. The family invites you to a luncheon following the funeral service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Greenwood Friends Cemetery in Ankeny Iowa.
