Marilyn Jean Tomforde, 81, passed away on January 21, 2026 at home. She was born on April 18, 1944 in Storm Lake, Iowa to Loran and Julia Hout.

Marilyn married Robert on November 1, 1962. She worked in Washington, D.C., at the Pentagon before later moving to Mitchellville, where she was employed at the DOC Training School for Girls. Marilyn left the workforce in 1982 following the birth of her daughter, Sara.

She later returned to work as a school secretary for the Mitchellville School District and eventually went back to working for the DOC at ICIW. In 2004, Marilyn moved to Altoona. One of her greatest joys was walking her granddaughter, Katlyn, to school every day.

Since childhood, Marilyn had a deep love for animals, especially her cats. She found joy in yard work and flower gardening, and she enjoyed collecting many different items over the years. An avid morning coffee drinker, she loved starting her day by reading the newspaper. Marilyn enjoyed watching western movies, which displayed the “simpler” times.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Sara (Mark); granddaughter, Katlyn; great granddaughter, Aslynn Jo, along with many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sidney (Dale) and husband, Robert Tomforde.
