Michael John Adzima
January 13, 1967 — February 05, 2026
Michael John Adzima, 59, of Des Moines, passed away on February 5, 2026.
Michael was born on January 13, 1967, in Marquette, to Emery and Marion (Domdoerfer) Adzima. He built a long and dedicated career as a journeyman painter and was a proud member of the painters union for over 37 years. Throughout his working life, Michael shared his talent and strong work ethic with many companies and individuals across the Des Moines area, including Rod Cron and Shawn Dugan of Capital City Painting; Jeremy Toland of JC Toland Painting Company; Brandon and Brad of First Interiors Color and First Star Painting; and John and Chris, with whom he not only worked but formed lasting and true friendships. He also worked in maintenance for his apartment building under Jason Roose and his wife, serving residents throughout the Des Moines community. Painting was more than a job to Michael — it was a craft he took pride in and a way he connected with others.
Michael treasured his friendships and family deeply. His best friends, James “Scrappy” and Tara, along with his sister-in-law Tammy; brother-in-law Jeffrey; and extended in-laws Jacky, Sara, Robert, and Nancy, held special places in his heart.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 15 years, Donna; his stepdaughter, Tia Grossman; and his three granddaughters, Rebecca Garza, Hope Garza, and Maria Vazquez, all of Des Moines. He is also survived by his sisters, Susan Heck of Green Bay and Janet Adzima of Kansas City; as well as his nephew, Chris, of Green Bay.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Alisha Adzima; his twin granddaughters; his grandson; and his sister, Patty.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at Hy-Vee, 3330 Martin Luther King Jr Parkway, Des Moines, 50310.
Michael will be remembered for his dedication to his work, his loyalty to those he loved, and the friendships he built over a lifetime.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Donna.

To Michael - my everything. You are the love of my life, the air that I breathe.
You are my soul, you are my happiness, and that’s all I need.
You are my light; you are my dark -- the stars in the sky.
You are my ups and my downs -- the reason I try
You are my strength; you are my weakness.
The love from the start, you are my heart.
You are my tears, my joy in the love that you bring.
You are my world; you are my galaxy -- you are my everything.
I love you then, I love you now – and I will always love you.
Like you said, - “Baby til death do us part”. And we will be together again, holding each other for ever.
I love you so much honey and miss you.
Lord watch over him please until I can come to Heaven to be with him once again.
