Norma Jean Kissler of Altoona, Iowa
Norma Jean Kissler, 95, passed on July 18, 2026 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born on June 26, 1931, to Edwin and Agnes (Hurd) Ambrose in Bartlett, Iowa.
Norma grew up in Mills County, Iowa where she helped her dad on the family farm with her sisters, played 6-on-6 basketball in school, and roller skated for fun. Shortly after moving to Omaha, Nebraska for business school, she met her future husband (John Kissler).
Norma and John married in April 1954 and lived in Omaha where they had two children, Dianne & Johnny Michael. They retired to Altoona, Iowa in 1994 to be closer to grandchildren. Norma loved crossword puzzles, crochet, watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and eating sweet treats. Most importantly, Norma believed Jesus was the way to Heaven and enjoyed reading through her Bible.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents Edwin & Agnes Ambrose, husband John Kissler, sisters Shirley Nagel & Nancy Willis, and son Johnny Michael.
Those left to cherish Norma’s memory include her loving daughter Dianne McDonald, grandchildren: Julie (Jonathan Zegers) McDonald, Joel (Janice) McDonald, Jayne (Homero) Adame, and Jonathan McDonald. She also had three great grandchildren: Ansel, Orson and McKenzie.
