Becky Short, 79, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 19, 2025, at her home in Mankato, Minnesota, surrounded by family.

Becky was born in Cedar Falls, Iowa on June 13, 1946, to Dorothy and Robert Olsen. She was a 1964 graduate of Cedar Falls High School, going on to graduate from The University of Northern Iowa with a degree in Special Education. She taught special needs children in the Des Moines Public Schools for over 35 years until her retirement in 2002.

Becky was the cherished wife to Earl Short for 53 years, having married the love of her life on September 19, 1970. Their partnership was a testament to enduring love, mutual support, and a life built together through joy and challenge.

Becky was known for her love of her Savior, unwavering love and commitment to her husband, Earl, her brothers, children, grandchildren, and the many friends who considered her family. She had a generous spirit, a snarky sense of humor, infectious smile, compassionate heart, and tender spirit. She found great happiness in family gatherings, church events, and the everyday comforts of home. Her kindness touched neighbors, friends, and relatives alike, and she took pride in creating welcoming spaces where everyone felt seen and valued. Becky’s generosity, warmth, and steadfast love will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Becky leaves behind her three children, Jay (Krista) Short, Ryan (Rachel) Short, and Lara (Pete) Walsworth, her 8 grandchildren, Brayden Short, Jorden Short, Jaxon Short, Alexandria Short, Kayla Short, Silas Walsworth, Seth Walsworth, and Luke Walsworth, and brothers Bryce Olsen, Ric (Kelli) Olsen, and Jeff Olsen

Becky was preceded in death by her husband Earl Short, her parents, Dorothy and Robert Olsen, her sister Barbara Dunham and brother Robert Olsen.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Maranatha Baptist Church, 877 SE 19th St in Grimes, Iowa.
