Robert “Bob” LeRoy Ellis

Robert Ellis, age 77, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born the son of Mearlin and Bernice (Wright) Ellis on October 4, 1946, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Bob’s faith was foundational for him. He was a Pastor for 18 years at Grace Assembly and Calvary Grace Tabernacle in Des Moines. Bob also worked as a factory worker at United Plating Company for 20 years and as a driver for Rochester Armored Car Co.

Bob loved working with his hands and was a talented builder. In his free time, he enjoyed watching NCIS, John Wayne westerns and loved spending time with his horse, Chief. Bob was known for his sweet tooth, so much that his grandkids called him Grandpa Candy. He was also affectionately known as Grandpa Fuzzy by his granddaughter, due to a bit of hair loss, and over the last several years his children and grandchildren referred to him as Poppy. Above all else, Bob treasured time spent with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Margie Ellis, children David (Amie) Ellis, Michele (Paul) Aurand, Holly Faux, Joseph Wagner, Jr., and Donna (Corey) Wilson, 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, three sisters, and a host of extended family members and dear friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Faith Elizabeth Ellis, three brothers, and two sisters.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 12, 2024, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, April 13, 2024, also at the funeral home followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
