Richard Wayne Rice
Ankeny, Iowa
Richard Wayne Rice, 71, passed away on May 12, 2025, at MercyOne Hospital. He was born on January 6, 1954, in Des Moines to Willis and Ruth (Meriman) Rice.
Richard retired as a service technician from RYKO Car Wash. He graduated from Saydel High School in 1971. In his younger years, he enjoyed golfing. Richard coached softball at North Des Moines Softball.
Richard is survived by his wife of 44 years, Desiree; daughters, Julie “JulesVern” (Johnny) Swanson and Laura “Germin” (Tony) Cupp; grandchildren, Stephanie Swanson, Michael Swanson and Jude Cupp; in-laws, Wayne and Mary Lou Young, along with a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
Richard will be laid to rest with his best friend (dog) “Toby”.
A private family graveside service will be held.
The family asks that condolence cards be mailed to Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, Iowa 50313.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Kidney Fund or American Diabetes Association in loving memory of Richard.

I have memories from way back. My family & Rick’s grew up on the same street and he and my brothers were friends. Years later I met Des and what a happy fun couple they were. Rick was a sweet guy. Lots of fond memories. My sympathies Des
