Rickey Figgins, age 62, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2025. He was born the son of Harold and Mary Figgins on September 7, 1963 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Rickey attended Boys Town in Nebraska, where he discovered a talent for creating and building. He learned welding and knife crafting, and went on to make his own knives and axes. He also designed and built a remote-control lawn mower, and he became incredibly tech-savvy, always inventing something new. Rickey was intelligent and mechanically gifted, able to take apart and fix just about anything.

Rickey worked for the Des Moines Public Works Streets Crew for 31 years and had recently retired. He enjoyed hunting and was especially proud of the large deer he shot, which is mounted on his wall. He was an animal lover, always feeding the squirrels and the neighborhood cats. He especially loved his dogs and faithfully took them to Four Mile Park.

If you could get past the serious look on Rickey’s face, you would find laughter, creativity, and vision. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is lovingly survived by his daughter Lacee Wubben, brothers Darrell (Loretta) Randy, Randy Figgins, Johnnie Figgins, and Harold Figgins, Jr., sisters Donna Farwell, Patricia Weaver, Doris Hull, Shirley (Kevin) Gute, and Carol Simpson, five grandchildren, niece Alicia Figgins, and a host of extended family and friends.

Rickey was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Mary Figgins, brother Alvin Lucas, sisters Betty Deitrich and Sharon Cummings, nephew Dewayne Figgins, and his aunt who was like a mother to him Dora “Doe” Atkinson.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Boys Town in Nebraska in Rickey’s memory. Boys Town is a place where young people are given a second chance and are taught the skills they need to succeed. This organization was very meaningful to Rickey.
