Robert Allan Dickson, Jr was many things to many people. He was a protector and hero to his younger brother. He was a blessing and a comfort to his parents, a loving caretaker to his grandparents and a pillar and best friend to his wife. He was a giving and loyal friend to many others.

Growing up, Rob picked up on things quickly and easily. As a baby, he crawled, walked and talked early. He learned to read in kindergarten. He was playing chess with a family friend at age 6. He loved sports. He played basketball and Little League baseball from the age of 8 or so until high school. He was often chosen to play on All Star teams for baseball and the AAU teams for basketball. He excelled at pool and ping pong. He was an avid bowler and carried a high average —often bowling ‘300’ games. Rob was a competitor on family game nights whether playing cards, board games or Atari’s Pac Man or Space Invaders. He was always the guy to beat and he enjoyed winning.

In Middle School, the Music Director discovered his singing voice and encouraged him to perform solos in Chorus. Along with others, he was chosen to sing in the back up choir for Andy Williams at The Civic Center. Unbeknownst to his family, Rob joined swing choir in High School. He secretly went to practices and after school performances because he was not comfortable as the center of attention. Of course, once his mother found out, she, his brother and both grandmothers were in attendance for an after-school performance. There he was, up on stage with the other boys and girls, dancing and singing. If he was nervous because his family was watching, it didn’t show. He performed quite well.
Rob began working at age 14 for Jack Blair’s neighborhood grocery store. Over the years he worked for several companies, but his favorite job was with the City of DM Parks Department. He was assigned to Ewing Park. A bonus to working there was, he and his Uncle Joe discovered the creek (that was fed by Easter Lake) in a private area of the park. He and his Uncle Joe would escape there to fish after work. Fishing became one of his favorite past times.

On June 22, 2001, he married Annette Fetters and became a stepfather to her daughter, Lacie. The marriage was long-lasting. Rob and Annette would have celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this month.

Besides his wife, Annette, their daughter Lacie Dennison (Caleb) and two grandchildren Emma and Ari, Rob is survived by his mother, Betty Jo Dickson-Nizzi, his father Robert Dickson, Sr, and his brother, Ryan Dickson (Amy). In addition, he is survived by his nephew, James Dickson and nieces Shelby, Alyssa and Samantha Dickson as well as Aunts, Uncles and five cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joe and Alyce Dickson and maternal grandparents Joseph and Betty Hiatt and stepmother, Nanette Dickson.

Throughout his life, Rob would prove to be a humble guy and a loyal friend. He loved unconditionally and saw the good in most people. He accepted everyone without judgment. If you needed the shirt from his back, he would likely give it to you.

When Robby left this world, he took a piece of our hearts with him. We are grateful for the time he was in our lives and will each cherish our own special memories.

His family will miss him every day. He was so loved.
