Sally Joan Hansen

Sally Joan Hansen, 87, passed away on August 19, 2026, at Kenny Brook Village in Grimes. She was born on April 18, 1939, in Des Moines.

Sally was a homemaker and a beloved preschool teacher who found great joy in the outdoors and the beauty of nature. Her love for gardening reflected that passion, and she took great pride in nurturing the plants and flowers around her. Sally also had a special love for birds of all kinds. She cared for them with such tenderness that she even provided furniture for her feathered visitors to perch on when they came to her porch. Her kindness and love for nature brought warmth and joy to all who knew her.

Sally is survived by her children, Dennis (Pam) Hansen, Daniel (Robin) Hansen and Denise Hansen; 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira; parents, Lester and Lucile (Sigler) Arnold and brother, Dick (Betty) Johnson.

Family will greet guests on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, Iowa. Following visitation, a graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m., at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Ave., Des Moines, Iowa.
