Sophia Marie Douglas
June 28, 2013 — August 21, 2025
Sophia Marie Douglas, age 12, of Cambridge, Iowa, passed away on August 21, 2025. She was born on June 28, 2013, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Krista and Dennis Douglas.
Sophia was a bright light in the lives of everyone who knew her. She attended the Ballard School District in Huxley, where she enjoyed playing volleyball and spending time with her many friends. Her laughter, kindness, and easygoing spirit touched all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is lovingly remembered by her parents, Krista and Dennis Douglas; her brother, Jered Douglas and his fiancé, Alyssa Meyers; her sister, Kiersten (Gaige) Johansmeier; her nephew, Riley Douglas; and her grandparents, Janet and Francis Douglas, and Ron Culver. Sophia also leaves behind her beloved “fur-babies,” Opus, Leo, and Mia. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Ann Culver.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 8pm Thursday, August 28, 2025 at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 1701 8th St. SW in Altoona. Funeral services will be held at 11am Friday, August 29, 2025 at the church, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery.
To honor Sophia’s memory, memorial contributions may be directed to her family. In keeping with Sophia’s fun-loving personality, she would not want a stuffy affair—so please come in your comfy clothes, with no ties required.
Sophia’s joyful presence will be deeply missed, but her love will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.

Me and Sofia were best friends we grow up together I remember when we would play and have sleepovers and play in the pool. I wanna say something for all our friends but Amelia,Taylor and Maggie all miss Sophia so much I know that she is in a better place and she is not hurting anymore and she is safe with god. Sophia was a beautiful soul and I will very much miss her little laugh and her kind presence in my classroom. She made people happy and made teaching more fun because of her sweetness and contagious smile. I only had her for one semester in art but she was so creative and funny and unique and I was really looking forward to having her in art again. My sincerest condolences to her family, her friends and all who loved her. This is such a tragedy and our students will really miss her---Ballard will not be the same without her. I am praying for you, her family and friends, in your grief. I'm so sorry for this loss.
Love your art teacher, Ms.Burke

It hurts me so much to know that you have left us all behind here on earth but you have went to somewhere where you will have no more pain anymore. You were the BEST of friend.. math, IDM, and lunch will never be the same without your smiles and giggles to make our days. When I was growing through some tough times you made me smile and laugh. You had some pretty funny drawings and they were really fun to make with you. And the gimkits we played together were a lot of fun!! I had so much fun playing with you in IDM when we had it in classrooms you always had me laughing❤️ I know it seems like we weren’t close but you really made a good big impact on my life you helped me through tough times and you helped other people get through things you are such a sweet girl Sophia❤️ and I wish you could read this and know how much I care about you..

Hair Bows, “My House”, falling asleep on chest as a little baby, putting picture boards together for your first birthday, taking you EVERYWHERE I went, watching endless episodes of Barbie, watching your love for volleyball grow, going to Pizza Ranch, getting calls from my mom that you were going to be staying the night and that I needed to be sure to stop by… the memories are endless. And still my heart will not let me believe you are gone. The little girl that came into my life because I was a nanny down the road turned into 12 years of watching you grow and find find new interests from LOL balls to art to volleyball. “My House” has and will forever be your song! Love you baby girl 💜
