Steven Jeffrey Johnson
January 28, 1958 — July 09, 2026
Steven Jeffrey Johnson, age 68, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at his home in Des Moines. He was born January 28, 1958, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Richard and Polly (Fenner) Johnson.
Steven attended Lincoln High School. In his youth, he enjoyed delivering newspapers on his paper route, playing Little League baseball, and roller skating. He had a deep love for music and dancing and was known by family and friends as the toughest food critic around, never hesitating to offer advice or tips for improving a recipe or cooking technique. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, and cheering on his favorite football teams, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Green Bay Packers.
Steve loved parking cars in his yard during the Iowa State Fair. Known by many as having the "safe yard" to park in, he took pride in looking after his customers and ensuring their vehicles were secure while they enjoyed the fair.
He cherished spending time with his two grandsons, Emmett and Graham, especially watching football together on the weekends.
Steve was a dedicated and hardworking man who retired after many years of service at both Mercy Hospital and UPS. At his core, he was a devoted family man. When he wasn't hard at work, he was spending time with those he loved. If anyone ever needed help, they knew they could count on Steve. He was always willing to lend a hand and do whatever he could to make sure others were cared for during their time of need.
Steve was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to his family and community will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
He was survived by his children, Sylvia Bright and Steven Johnson. His sister Sheryl Reeves, sister Paula Fenner, brother Gary Johnson and brother Richard Johnson along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Steven was preceded in death by his mother Polly Johnson (Fenner), father Richard Johnson, and his brothers Gerald Johnson and Dennis Johnson.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
