Terry Thomsen, 71, passed away on May 2, 2026. He was born in Anamosa, Iowa, the son of Melvin and Margaret (Dearborn) Thomsen, and grew up on the family farm in Wyoming, Iowa, alongside his siblings, Monica and Mark.

Terry graduated from Midland Community High School, where he wrestled and earned numerous awards for his leadership and achievements in varsity wrestling. He also played golf and participated in band activities. After high school, Terry went on to earn a degree as a machinist from Kirkwood Community College.

He dedicated 42 uninterrupted years to his career, beginning at Kenworth Mid Iowa and continuing with MHC Trucking. Terry started by delivering truck parts across Iowa and later advanced to become the parts manager.

Terry had a deep love for golf and took great pride in his yard work so much so that he often helped care for his neighbors’ yards as well. He enjoyed caring for his cats and traveling to Cancun with his family. Terry also had a fondness for sweet treats, which occasionally got him into trouble with his wife Kay.

Known for his kindness and willingness to help others, Terry continued to give even after his passing through his life-saving organ donations.

Those left to cherish Terry’s memory and legacy include his brother, Mark; his son, Travis, and daughter-in-law, Kynsie; his grandchildren, Kooper, Phoenix, Mason, Bear, and Odin; his great-grandchild, Klayton; and many friends, along with the cats he loved very much.

A celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, Altoona, Iowa.
